WPG, the largest distributor of semiconductor components in Asia, reported December 2009 consolidated sales of NT$18.25 billion (US$563.88 million), represented an increase of 99% over previous year, 2009 forth quarter revenue reached NT$53.6 billion (US$ 1.66 billion), while sales were exceeding expectations due to the strong demand by Chinese local customers for the coming Chinese New Year. 2009 sales of NT$196.9 billion (US$5.96 billion) increased 38% in comparison with 2008.
The sales growth of 2009 was not only contributed by the mergers and acquisitions, but China’s surge in domestic demand in consumer electronics, such as LCD TV, driven by its national urbanization policy and the increasing purchasing power. With hot seasonal growth, Netbook, Network and STB have been doing well, in addition to China local mobile phone brands, WPG has also continually increased the 3G and smartphone market penetration.
The market share of WPG has extended consecutively, the sales breakdowns by regions are 80% from China (incl. HK), 13% from Taiwan, 6% from ASEAN and 1% from others.
