WPG, the largest distributor of semiconductor components in Asia, posted consolidated sales of NT$9.4 billion (approximately US$293 million) for the month of January 2006, representing a 6% m-o-m decrease and a 10% y-o-y increase respectively. WPG Holdings line cards cover Year 2006 expecting hot sales - Notebook PC, Digital Camera, MP3, multi-media handheld electronics and LCD TV, advising healthy growth momentum. Better-than-expected monthly sales growth rate mirrored weak January seasonality.
Performance of the 2 major WPG’s major entities was as follows: World Peace Group reported consolidated sales of NT$6.7 billion (approximately US$209 million), citing an 8% m-o-m decrease but a 3% y-o-y increase for the month of January 2006 respectively. SAC Group for January, 2006 recorded consolidated sales of NT$2.7 billion (approximately US$85 million), representing a 1% m-o-m increase and a 30% y-o-y increase respectively.
Sales breakdown by regions for January was as follows: 32% from Taiwan, 58% from China (incl. HK) and 10% from Asean. The Greater China is WPG’s sales focus.
Sales breakdown by product category for January was as follows: 37% from core chips (CPU, MPU, chipsets), 36% from standard chips (logic, analog/linear, discrete and ASSP), rising from some 30% of 4Q05 due to sound demand, 21% from memory chips (DRAM, SRAM, Flash, EEPROM), and 6% from others. Percentage of analog product category, with higher margin, increased.
